May have periodic assignments for training at the Gainesville VAMC. Will perform bone marrow biopsies and other procedures as indicated. Present inservices to hospitalist and outpatient clinic staff. Electively admit Oncology patients for defined procedures, transfusions and infusions. Reviews current literature and attends educational meetings.Works with physician on quality improvement and assurance as related to the subspecialty. May be involved with setting up cancer screening and prevention programs. Medicine Physician Extender CLINICAL PROG COORD, 4, REQ. 0800354 (Updated 10/08/2008; added to listing 6/15/2008) This position will report to the Chief of the Division in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. The position will function under the supervision of a licensed and credentialed physician, providing diagnostic and therapeutic health care to Pulmonary and Critical Medicine patients being treated in pulmonary and critical care service areas. Duties include: 1. The position will provide comprehensive examination, assessment, and evaluation of patients in pulmonary medicine outpatient clinics.The activities will be inclusive of assuring the readiness of the clinic, developing care plans, providing medications, diagnostic tests, patient and family education, ancillary prescriptions, and inpatient and outpatient referrals. These activities will be conducted under the supervision of a licensed and credentialed physician. 2. The position will support the division's physicians by providing primary support for responding to patient inquiries. This will include responding to patient and provider phone calls or emails regarding their clinical concerns, prescription refills, referrals, diagnostic tests, etc. 3. The position will engage in special projects, meetings and committees related to pulmonary and critical care issues. 4. The position will participate in professional development and continuing education. The position will maintain and build competency through attendance at educational forums and participation in professional organizations. 5. The position will keep current regarding developments and trends in nurse practitioner/physician assistant field through educational programs, in services, professional associations and literature, and departmental policies and procedures. Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
